EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE
Objectives: To encourage and recognize excellence in architecture, to elevate public awareness and to recognize the architects, consultants, contractors and owners whose efforts enhance the built environment.
Eligibility: Entries must have been designed by architects who are AIA Kansas members or by firms owned by AIA Kansas members. Eligible projects must have been completed after January 1, 2005, and may include groups of buildings, individual buildings, and renovations or additions to existing buildings. Note: projects that received unbuilt awards last year are unable to enter until 2011.
Entry Process: Complete the Entry Form and return it with the required fee of $150.00 per project to AIA Kansas by July 15, if possible.
Submissions: Submissions must be provided on an unmarked CD in a PowerPoint presentation. CD cannot exceed 15 images and 50 MB total. No other submittal information will be accepted. Projects will be evaluated based on the information provided. The jury will not visit projects.
Each submission should include:
- An unmarked CD not exceeding 15 images and 50 MB total. Images sufficient to completely describe the project and its site context including plans and sections. Views of all exposed elevations are required.
- Descriptive data form containing a statement of the problem; discussion of the site and context; explanation of the design intentions and approach; description of the solution including materials and systems employed, area and construction cost. DO NOT include this on your CD.
- Owner statement form that the architect sends to the owner/client to fill out and return to the architect prior to submittal MUST be included. DO NOT include this on your CD.
- Identification form listing the project, architect, consultant, contractors, client, etc. DO NOT include this form on your CD; provide this information on the appropriate form.

EXCELLENCE IN INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE
Objectives: Encourage and recognize excellence in building interiors
Eligibility: Entries must have been designed by architects who are AIA Kansas members or by firms owned by AIA Kansas members. Eligible projects must have been completed after January 1, 2005.
Entry Process: Complete the Entry Form and return it with the required fee of $150.00 per project to AIA Kansas by July 15, if possible.
Submissions: Submissions must be provided on an unmarked CD in a PowerPoint presentation. CD cannot exceed 15 images and 50MB total. No other submittal information will be accepted. Projects will be evaluated based on the information provided. The Jury will not visit projects.

EXCELLENCE IN RENOVATION/PRESERVATION
Objectives: Encourage and recognize excellence in the renovation and preservation of historic or existing buildings, to elevate public awareness and to recognize the architects, owners, consultants, contractors, craftspersons, and suppliers whose efforts enhance the built environment.
Eligibility: Entries must have been designed by architects who are AIA Kansas members or by firms owned by AIA Kansas members. Eligible projects must have been completed after January 1, 2005.

EXCELLENCE IN CONCRETE MASONRY DESIGN or EXCELLENCE IN BRICK MASONRY DESIGN
Objectives: To encourage and recognize excellence in the design of masonry architecture, to elevate public awareness and to recognize the architects, owners, consultants, contractors, craftspersons, and suppliers whose efforts enhance the built environment.
Eligibility: Entries must have been designed by architects who are AIA Kansas members or by firms owned by AIA Kansas members. Eligible projects must have been completed after January 1, 2004, and may include residential, commercial and or landscape project.
Entry Process: Complete the attached Entry Form and return it with the required fee of $50.00 per project to AIA Kansas by Friday, July 31, if possible.
Submissions: Submissions must be provided on an unmarked CD in a PowerPoint presentation. CD cannot exceed 15 images and 50 MB total. No other submittal information will be accepted. Projects will be evaluated based on the information provided. The jury will not visit projects.
Each submission should include:

STUDENT ARCHITECTURAL AWARDS
Objectives: To encourage and recognize excellence in unbuilt student work, elevate public awareness, and recognize architecture students whose efforts enhance the art of architecture.
Eligibility: Entries must be the work of architectural students at the University of Kansas or Kansas State University. Eligible architectural drawings or models may be in any medium or combination of media.
Entry fee: AIAS members FREE; non-AIAS Members $25 per entry made payable to AIAS.
Submissions: Submissions will be evaluated based on the information contained on a CD - PowerPoint Presentation.
Each submission should include:
· A maximum of six images of the unbuilt student architecture
· A description of the project explaining the intentions, approach, and the solution, media, materials and technical means employed.
SUBMITTAL DEADLINE: MONDAY, AUGUST 2, 2010, 5pm, AIA Kansas Office
EXCELLENCE IN THE WORK OF EMERGING PROFESIONALS
Objectives: To encourage and recognize the excellence in work by AIA Kansas emerging professionals and elevate public awareness to the contributions they make to the built environment.
Eligibility: Entries must have been designed by AIA Kansas members who are emerging professionals (associates and young architects who are within their first ten years of licensure.) Eligible projects must have been completed after January 1, 2005. Projects may include any building, building part, detail, furniture, product, etc. that has been designed by the emerging professional.
Entry Process: Complete the Entry Form and return it with the required fee of $50.00 per project to AIA Kansas by July 15, if possible.
Submissions: Submissions must be provided on an unmarked CD in a PowerPoint presentation. CD cannot exceed 15 images and 50 MB total. No other submittal information will be accepted. Projects will be evaluated based on the information provided. The jury will not visit projects.

UNBUILT - COMMISSIONED WORK
Objectives: Encourage and recognize excellence in architecture, elevate public awareness, and recognize those whose efforts enhance the art of architecture in unbuilt work.
Eligibility: Entries must be the work of AIA members that have an identifiable client. The project may be one that will not be built or has not, yet, been built. Eligible architectural drawings or models may be in any medium or combination of media.
Entry Process: Complete the Entry form and return it with the required fee of $50.00 per entry to AIA Kansas by July 15, 2010.
Submissions: Submissions must be provided on an unmarked CD in a PowerPoint presentation. CD cannot exceed 15 images and 50MB total. No other submittal information will be accepted. Projects will be evaluated based on the information provided. Each submission should include:

- For projects that receive awards in this category, photos of the unbuilt work only may be used for publicity. Projects that receive awards in one year cannot enter the excellence in architecture category as built projects the immediate year following the award.

UNBUILT - NON-COMMISSIONED WORK
Objectives: Encourage and recognize excellence in architecture, elevate public awareness, and recognize those whose efforts enhance the art of architecture through theoretical work.
Eligibility: Entries must be the work of AIA members or members of the architectural faculty of a university within AIA Kansas. Eligible architectural drawings or models may be in any medium or combination of media.
Entry Process: Complete the Entry Form and return it with the required fee of $50.00 per entry to AIA Kansas by July 15, if possible.
Submissions: Submissions must be provided on an unmarked CD in a PowerPoint presentation. CD cannot exceed 15 images and 50 MB total. No other submittal information will be accepted. Projects will be evaluated based on the information provided. Each submission should include:

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION
Deadline for Submittals: MONDAY, AUGUST 2, 2010 @ 5 PM, AIA Kansas Office
Previous winners: Completed projects receiving previous AIA Kansas awards are not eligible. Projects receiving Unbuilt Awards must wait one year before entering the project as a built project (i.e. received award in 2008, cannot enter until 2010)
Identification of architect, student or designer: The identity of the designer, student, firm, and/or university must be concealed on all materials submitted to the jury.
Minimum Suggested CD Size: The suggested minimum CD size is 25 MG.
Retain duplicates of material: Submittals will not be returned.
Awards: Jury members will be solely responsible for selecting the submittals to receive 2010 AIA Kansas Awards.
Notice of awards: Award winners will be notified via telephone and all entrants will be informed of the status of their submissions via mail or email.
Winner Requirements: Winners must prepare a board of their winning project using one foam-core board, 20” wide and 30” high. Boards are used during the conference and are used throughout the following year for publicity.
Awards presentation: Awards will be publicly presented to architects, students, and designers by the Jury Co-Chairs, at the AIA Kansas Conference on Thursday evening, September 16th in Topeka, Kansas. Architects are encouraged to invite owners and members of the design and construction team to be their guests at the awards presentation. Each winning firm will be given a predetermined amount of time to talk about their work. It will be open to the public.
Publicity: AIA Kansas will distribute press releases to the winners. Each winner will be responsible for sending the release to their local press. Exception - AIA Kansas will submit press releases to AIArchitect.
