Pembroke Hill School, Kansas City's largest independent college preparatory institution, operates its middle and upper schools at the Ward Parkway Campus, situated at Ward Parkway and 51st Street. Recently, significant enhancements were made to key communal areas where the school community gathers for assemblies and celebrations: the campus green, dining facilities, and athletic venues. This project aimed to unify the campus in alignment with Pembroke Hill's mission and values, enriching student experiences and fostering a sense of unity.
The planning and design process involved close collaboration with school staff to understand current facility usage. Key design goals included promoting engagement and interaction across the school community, ensuring flexibility for various uses, maintaining sustainability by maximizing space utilization, and achieving aesthetic harmony across buildings and grounds.
The campus redevelopment featured four main structures carefully integrated to blend modern elements with the campus's traditional architecture, preserving its collegiate atmosphere and historical significance. Changes included enclosing the quadrangle, expanding the campus green, renovating Hall Student Center, and introducing Patterson Hall, connected by a skywalk to Centennial Hall. The Bellis Athletics Center replaced Pierson Gym, preserving green space for future expansion.
Overall, these updates reflect Pembroke Hill School's commitment to enhancing educational environments while honoring its heritage, creating a cohesive campus that supports academic and community life alike.
