About the Event
This program features a guided tour of Silverdale Quality Stone's limestone quarry and fabrication plant in Arkansas City, Kansas, followed by a facilitated roundtable discussion. Participants will examine the lifecycle of Kansas limestone, from extraction and precision cutting to fabrication, shop drawings, and installation applications. The tour will focus on material performance characteristics, structural and veneer applications, fabrication tolerances, anchoring systems, and moisture management considerations. Attendees will gain insight into how architects can better coordinate with fabricators to support constructibility, code compliance, durability, and long-term building performance.
Learning Objectives:
Identify the physical properties and performance characteristics of Kansas limestone and explain how those properties influence structural applications, anchoring methods, and code-compliant detailing in commercial and residential projects.
Analyze the quarrying, cutting, and fabrication processes used in limestone production and evaluate how fabrication tolerances and shop drawings impact constructability, installation safety, and long-term building durability.
Compare structural limestone applications, veneer systems,…
